Along with the Members Only Chat (see the link at the upper, left-hand corner of the site), there’s a new site feature I want to make sure you know about. We’ve launched a new Webcomics.com Calendar!

I’ve got a comics pet peeve that’s been driving me crazy lately, and this seems like a good place to vent my spleen.
We keep giving our readers the finger.
It’s especially rampant in humor strips. We get to the last panel, the punchline is delivered, and I look under the word balloon, and there’s the speaker, pointing his index finger in the air.

You may have noticed something over the past few weeks. You’ll see Google Analytics reporting a huge spike in traffic — and then later in the day, you’ll see that your stats have been adjusted to normal levels. What just happened? Did someone “steal” your readers? Were they ever there?! The answer is pretty interesting.

Having launched a Patreon page for my comic strip, I was keen to add a permanent Patreon icon in a prominent position above my comic. I use Comics Easel / WordPress, and that has a pre-coded interface for social-media buttons. It would be a perfect place for a Kickstarer button or a Patreon button. But until those get included in a future update, I was going to have to wing it.

Q: It’s been a while since Brad has discussed digital downloads of his comic. It appears he’s now using SendOwl, and the pay what you want is no longer available (the price is fixed at 99 cents per month). Could Brad give an update on how this is going? Also, I’d be curious to know how Brad ended up at this point (the current cost and why pay what you want is now gone).

Q.: I took your advice and set up an About Me page but haven’t done a heck of a lot with it yet. Lately, I seem to be doing a lot of bio-writing and frankly, I’m not particularly good at it. I was impressed with the one you have set up on your profile. It’s nicely balanced and I was wondering if you would talk a little about building a good one, please? What makes an effective bio? What do you look for when you read one? What is superfluous? What separates info for bio from say a resume or cover letter? Is there a reasonable split between personal info and professional accomplishment? How much is too much? I’m thinking it gets redundant to just copy/paste from your About page, or is that acceptable? Any big Do’s or Don’ts?

A while back we discussed options for health insurance for small-business owners and people who were self-employed. Since a lot has changed since then, I figured it would be appropriate to re-address the topic here.
