Q: My question is about book design. My goal is to self-publish by the end of the year and I have content and funding. How important is it to keep book designs consistent from edition to edition with regard to size, page numbers, graphic elements and extra content?
What if i regret a choice I make in my first book? Is it okay to change that element it in later books? Should I revisit the design when I print the second edition of the first book? or should I just learn to love my first book for what it is?
Also, how much thought needs to go into pricing the book (which is necessary for the UPC code?) when you’re printing your first book?

My resolution for the new year is to improve my writing in 2011 as much as I improved my art in 2010. Which is to say that i’m very happy with the levels to which I pushed myself creatively last year when it came to the visual style of PvP. And I want to push myself as hard this year in regards to my writing.

This week’s poll asked on which days your comic updates. Not surprisingly, the weekend showed the lowest results. Here’s a further breakdown of the 130 responses.
Monday was the clear favorite (64%) with Wednesday and Friday coming in close behind with 52% and 58% respectively. Tuesdays and Thursdays are lulls in the week with 37% and 35% of webcomics updating on those days.

Q: I’ve been a doodler and cartoon sketcher all my life, but I’ve never really had my own style. In middle school, I mimicked anime. In high school, I mimicked Penny Arcade’s style. Now after college, I mimic whatever style I feel like at the time. What this means though is that while I can draw anything from looking at a reference (whether it be realistic or cartoon-like), I’ve never been able to develop my own style of drawing or been able to capture the images I have in my head. I’ve always needed some reference point to draw from. Do you guys have any advice for how an artist can develop their own style? Is it just a matter of practicing without looking at a reference? What are your thoughts?
