OK, this is weird, but there’s one thing that I want to highlight that I think Patrick is doing right. He took a long, hard look at a comic that he had put years into, and he decided that it was time to bring it to a close and try something new. Noir, baby! This comic captures the mood and the attitude of noir-era storytelling absolutely beautifully. The character designs… the characterizations… the composition… it’s very, very well crafted in that respect. The linework is coming along nicely — and that’s the hardest aspect of working in this kind of genre, but overall, I think this comic brings the noir in a big way.

Gesture. Although the art has not fully matured, I really enjoy how Cayen works extra hard on gesture to convey additional information about the scenes being created. There’s very little “talking heads” panels… instead, the characters emote and gesture… camera angle shift… focal points are directed towards hands and actions, rather than static heads. It’s a really wonderful aspect to the comic.
