FrumphParticipant
1 & 2) You can choose to use the ‘navigate only in chapters’ options and the navigation will stay focused first next previous and last IN that chapter (story).
3) BBPress like we use on here, it’s available on the repository and you can set it so that you have to be logged in to go to it
4) Widget/Sidebar areas in WordPress, can put anything into them.
5) Use WordFence Security plugin with the Image Captcha plugin and it will free you from bots.

FrumphParticipantheh thank you 😉 but i’m not greedy just need necessity
FrumphParticipantAnd you shoulda said something bradster 😉
FrumphParticipantFixed, but you have to scroll down to the very bottom, you’ll find the login boxes
FrumphParticipantWe’re fully funded 😉 I put a cap at 2200 because I just need a car that I can drive to simple places with, nothing fancy and it was amazingly funded within 3 days. \o/
FrumphParticipantGoing to make this easy on you.
When I enable comicpress’ default menubar, it lists all my pages by order of creation.
Use the appearance -> menus to create your menubar with what items you want on it.
Use this guide: https://www.webcomics.com/uncategorized/menubar-icons/ to make custom images for those said items in the menubar. Which I assume that’s what you mean by ‘brad’s guide’
Once you have that setup tell me and I can look at your site and see why the images are shrinking down, more then likely it’s because #menubar-wrapper has a height max on it, we can fix that.
FrumphParticipant“If it’s sending out large amounts of spam that means someone inserted malicious code somewhere in the site.”
In continuation of this thought, recently WordPress was found to have an XMLRPC hack that caused people in the outside to just contact your website and send spam through the xmlrpc.
What the xmlrpc does is allow you to post remotely from wordpress via email and other methods as well as ‘talk’ to itself to pre-publish posts.. it’s what maintains CRON on your host, .. ya know, events that happen when scheduled.
It was patched in WordPress about a weekish ago, so the latest version of WP should have stopped that.
Otherwise you can go into the settings and disable XMLRPC, even delete the xmlrpc.php file from the root of your site.
/note/ this is a possibility as with everything else JJ Sandee said
FrumphParticipantuse the MORE tag to separate the summary with the content on the home page it adds a “read more by clicking here link”
If you notice in the post editor there’s a button for it, that’s what it does
FrumphParticipantDoesn’t that break bookmarks and deep links?
Yes, and no. The URL line updates with the jquery load, but the outer page doesn’t refresh while it does it’s thing
FrumphParticipantAlso, that “panel” theme doesn’t load new pages .. it’s jquery so it loads the comic up on the same page; so when someone navigates the comics the ads wouldn’t flip anyways
FrumphParticipantRight, you are correct; you don’t have ability to insert javascript and such into the text widgets to do ads.
I’m in the mind that when you’re starting out; it really isn’t worth an effort to start monetizing your comic to begin with; the petance you get from those ads is not worth the space until you build up your readership..
FrumphParticipantWordPress.COM sites, the free hosting; I assume you’re referring to the “panel” theme on there. You cannot put that on your local machine or any other hosting. You will have to work on it; on the subdomain that you get when registering.
Here’s the good news.
You can do all of the work you want on it without forwarding your actual domain to it ahead of time; because wordpress.com gives you an address to use like http://yourhandle.wordpress.com
When you’re ready; you can attach your actual domain to it.
FrumphParticipantDoh! it was just the ‘set name’ that was missing then? .. cool beans; glad you got it figured out 😉
Yeah the ‘set name’ (set as in group name) is what appears in the drop down menu, allows your child themes to contain more then one set so you can create multiple sets sort of thing
FrumphParticipantlooking at your site link ;/ looks like you got it all handled
FrumphParticipantwp-content/themes/yourchildtheme/images/nav/setname/*
is that where you placed your navigation buttons?
it should be .. .. with comic easel the graphic navigation is in the comic -> config .. where all of the other comic-based configuration settings are, not comicpress options …
