if your comics are going to by same height and width consistently, you can just add it as part of the background

#comic img { border: solid 1px #cecece; }
but repeating an image that goes down and having one layer on top; then layer on the bottom; that’s a much more difficult thing to do and requires quite a bit more, including padding on #comic-wrap and finding the above below left and right areas to work in..
So, got another example you might have ?
FrumphParticipantAlright, I figured out whats going on…
I wrote this about 6 years ago so I had to go back and see how I did it.
It’s only looking for Y m and d in whatever combination you put it in and m and d are 2 digits and Y of course 4
https://github.com/Frumph/comic-easel/blob/master/ceo-import.php#L29
If you look at this link here, you will see the pattern it’s looking for the [0-9]{2} means any string of 2 digits 0-9 so it’s looking for 00 01 02 03 and the like
you can edit the file and change those to {1} to look for single digits if you liked Y will still mask to {2} or {4} or add an , “y” = ‘[0-9]{2}’ so that line and the one above
or use a mass rename program to adjust your files adding 0 to the single digit #’s so 1-1-16 would be 01-01-16 – most mass rename plugins have the ability to set a mask of what you’re looking for
///
The WHY? the heck did I do it this way???Because PHP is limited in the fact that you can’t just strtotime() something that also has more to the filename, – the title of the post being looked at as well made that impossibly hard to do
FrumphParticipantalso, only add about 20 max at a time into the import directory else you’ll overload your hosting – unless you’re using a super sweet server that has a ton of ram
FrumphParticipantYou’re going to need a 2 digit for the y and/or 4 digit for a Y, it’s %m for month with 1-12
and j .. that’s way out:
%j day of year (001..366)You would want to use m-d-y as your mask
FrumphParticipantSide note: http://betweenwars.com/comic/2014/ will display all comics done in the year 2014 in the archive ;/
August 29, 2016 at 8:27 pm in reply to: Having an image that automatically displays the latest comic? #17363FrumphParticipant.. the thumbnail widget which does that didn’t work out for you?
.. could also use the [showcomic] shortcode..the undocumented [showcomic] slug … say you want to add a comic into any post you have to ya know, whatever – reference it; doesn’t matter .. this will embed the image with a link to the comic into whatever post you put it in
it has parameters:
character,size(thumbnail/large/full),slug,chapter,orderby(rand/asc/desc),month,day, year
so doing:
[showcomic orderby=rand character=charlie]
will make a random comic appear in the post that has the character with the slug charlie set to it
[showcomic orderby=asc chapter=chapter-1]
show the first comic of the chapter with the slug chapter-1 orderby=desc would be last comic and orderby=rand would be a random comic in that chapter
… you can be specific and make it
[showcomic slug=chp1pg3 size=full]
would make the comic post with the slug chp1pg3 (use your own) appear, .. specifically that comic only- This reply was modified 7 years, 8 months ago by Frumph.
FrumphParticipantPretty sure the archives stat is anything that’s utilizing the single.php viewed.. posts on their own page, don’t know if it counts custom post types single posts though.
FrumphParticipantSend me an jpeg image of what you want your site design to look like. ( philip@frumph.net )
Since i’m so inexpensive I ask for all images used in the site design to be made by you for 2 reasons
1) So that you know how to change them if you need them
2) Will save you $$ from me having to do themSite designs include step by step explanation and child theme so that you can learn for yourself how to modify/create on your own. (worth it)
FrumphParticipantBrad’s using the Easel theme which is an older version of the newer comicpress theme ;/ which his ‘easel options’ is not written as comicpress options.
I’ll be updating him in a couple days.
FrumphParticipantFeatured images don’t show on ‘pages’, just add the image you want to use into the post area itself.
FrumphParticipantJust keep a backup of your theme/edits/css and update your backup when you make changes .. don’t need to do it repeatedly all the time
FrumphParticipantLocal hard copies of your theme & custom CSS (make sure you update when you make site design changes), plugins that you bought that are not on the repo, wp-content/uploads directory, and database sql dump are what’s needed to be saved; everything else can be regot from just getting them from the repository again.
So essentially, the sql dump and updating the wp-content/uploads directory to a local drive is really all you need to be doing on a regular basis.

FrumphParticipantI would use blockquote and style it with targetted CSS like
.single-comic blockquote { }
would specifically target only blockquotes on comic pages, no where else
and blockquote is recognized as a relevant tag on search engines so more the better ya
