One of the downsides of Guest Pledging could be a rise in Kick-Trolls. (Backers who back, often at a high level, with the intention of dropping out later.)
Currently, one of the best ways to spot a Kick-Troll is to look at their profile, see how many projects they backed, and how long they’ve been on the platform, and whether or not they look like a real person or a bot or spammer.
We had a Kick-Troll for the last campaign I ran, came in at $500. Easy to spot, because he had a very anonymous looking barebones profile and he’d been on Kickstarter for 3 years and hadn’t backed a single project.
Very suspect.
Guest posting could make it harder to tell if someone is legit.
On the flip-side, it could lower barriers to entry for people new to Kickstarter.
