Kris Straub

Kris graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles, with a degree in Computer Science and Engineering, but his heart was firmly in comics. He first arrived on the Webcomics scene in 2000, with “Checkerboard Nightmare” (www.checkerboardnightmare.com), a thrice-weekly satire about Webcomics and the search for instant fame. Five years later, he launched “Starslip Crisis” (www.starslip.com), a six-day-a-week sci-fi comic strip about the crew of a decommissioned warship-turned-art-museum-turned-warship. The first two years of Starslip Crisis are collected in the book “Starslip Crisis: Volume 1.”

In 2007, he began the studio site Halfpixel.com to hold his many smaller print, Web, animation and musical projects — a site that ultimately expanded to include Scott Kurtz, followed by Brad Guigar and Dave Kellett.

Kris relocated from Los Angeles to Dallas in 2007.
