Photoshop Shortcuts

Here's a list of useful Photoshop shortcuts I've found. They should work in almost all versions. B - Brush Tool E - Eraser Tool [ - Decrease Brush Size ] - Increase Brush Size Z - Zoom Tool V - Move Tool G - Paint Bucket W - Magic Wand C - Crop M - Marque Selector T - Text Tool L - Lasso Tool X - Swap Foreground and Background Colors Shift+F5 - Fill Selection with Foreground Color Ctrl+A - Select Canvas Ctrl+T - Free Transform F - Fullscreen Tab - Hides Toolbars Spacebar (Hold Down) - Drag Canvas Hold Alt while using the brush or paint bucket tools to get the color picker On every tool, you should be able to hold Shift and push the appropriate key to change the tool. Pushing Shift+G will change between the Paint Bucket and Gradient Tools.

It's also helpful to customize your shortcuts. Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts allows you to go through the entire menu and assign/change any shortcuts there are. Some of the useful tools have complicated shortcuts that are unnatural to form with your hand when trying to work quickly so you can change them to something you feel more comfortable with.

I've set:
Command + Shift + R = rotate
Command + Shift + W = scale
Command + F = fill (instead of Shift + F5 - since I have the F keys programmed for other use)

These are just a few off the top of my head but they are all formed using only one hand (my left) since my right is quite often in use with my tablet.

Side Note: The "Select Canvas" and "Free Transform" you have listed as being "Ctrl + " functions which only works for PCs. On Mac the CTRL is replaced with COMMAND.

A few commands I use a lot are:
apple+shift+E = Merge Layers
apple+shift+S = Save As
apple+R = Show/Hide Rulers
apple+H = Show/Hide Guides
And when you hold "apple" (or Command, whatevs) with any tool selected you automatically get the Move tool.

Oh, and "apple+E" is just "merge down" if you want to merge just one layer instead of all of them with h"apple+shift+E".

Adding on to Kory:
In the more recent versions of photoshop you can select multiple layers at once.
If you have multiple layers selected and press apple(control) + E you will merge only the selected layers. Also works if you select a layer group apple(control) + E will merge the group.

A couple things i use VERY often (I believe these work in all versions of photoshop):
apple(control)+ Shift + N = New layer
Holding apple(control) and clicking on a layer will give you a marque in the shape of what ever is on the layer you click.

I've built a shrine to my favorite short cut. Before I start any projects I light some candles and say a prayer to my idol "command-Z".

All hail, command-Z.

Also

D = Default Black/White color settings. Useful if you ink in photoshop.

If you have the Arrow tool selected "V" and then you press SHIFT +/- you can go forward and backwards through all the different layer options for the layer you are on, such as Color, Multiply, Difference, etc.

I use PCs so much that I sometimes forget that there are other types of computers out there that lack "ctrl keys". Haha. A shortcut I just remembered is that you can push the number keys while using a brush tool to change it's opacity.

I would like to know how to DISABLE these quick keys. Numerous times I' get pissed because I don;t know what I accidentally hit, and can't get out of it.

I HATE that. I always push Q on accident and enter Quick Mask mode.

Here's my favorite keyboard shortcut for Photoshop. To flatten layers into one layer, while still preserving the original unflattened layers, do this:

shift-option-command-E (Mac)
shift-alt-control-E (PC)

Also Command-J (duplicates a layer)
and Command-R (shows rulers)

I also have a set of custom keyboard shortcuts for things like Rotate, Gaussian Blur, etc.

I want to turn off z. My favorite shortcuts are ALT for the eyedropper and [ and ] for resizing. However, there's more awesome ones! This is the list I created of various ones I've found out.

[ and ] = change brush size.
alt + [ or ] = change layer
alt + backspace = fill in all selections.
Create clipping layer = paint only on where the layer below is.
control-tab will switch between documents.
control-alt + scroll button will zoom in and out.
/ will lock layer transparency.
Capslock will flip between precise mode and normal mode mouse.
shift + [ or ] will change BRUSH HARDNESS.

When the brush tool is selected, you can change the opacity by pushing the numbers along the top. If the brush tool is not selected, it will change the layer opacity.

Hold down control when you've selected something to move what's in the selection.

Hi,
This website hosts a software that can open Photoshop color picker with a keyboard shortcut. It works wherever the color toolbar is.
